The religion of the Kalians, Eldism is monotheistic and highly hierarchal as well as brutal. They worship and provide praise to an unknowable being older than reality they call the Great Old One, or Tamolok, that is their one and only god. They perceive their diety as fighting an endless battle called the “Eternal War” in an attempt to stave off the inevitable apocalypse. In order to aid him sapient sacrifices, with their hearts ritually removed, are spiritually sent to aid him in his war against the ever relentless darkness. Cannibalism is also a heavy part of the doctrine, as are piercings to prove ones piety and having a large family.

Massive sacrifices are held monthly or yearly, depending on the current luck of the nation and whether or not Tikult’Kal is at war. In truly large sacrificial rites cities will literally overflow with blood, the sewers and city drain systems clogging with coagulating blood as the masses feast upon the fallen. This is especially true in the event of a culling, those gathered from the Purity Act sacrificed en-masse during the summer solstice every five years. Each and every sacrifice is cause for celebration and the populace is often jubilant, holding feasts of that are supported by the clergy and often contained exotic or specially prepared foods while hallucinogenic drugs and other such things that are usually kept only for the clergy and given freely to the public for a day of unmitigated celebration.

A sacrifice is always sapient, bound to a table or held down by four men. A priest or priestess then says a relevant prayer, usually commending the person’s spirit to the Great Old One with a few simple words though if the person is unusually important or popular the prayer can go on for some time. The heart is then removed with an obsidian bladed knife. The sacrifices is never given any tranquilizer or anaesthetic, so there is a lot of screaming and wailing during such sacrifices unless the sacrifice offered him or herself to the Great Old One willingly.

Those sacrificed are cannibalised in the belief that it will bring them closer to them, those that have spiritually ascended to the heavens, and thus making them closer to Tamolok. As such most every home has strips of jerky made from the flesh of sapient beings for when one requires guidance from Tamolok, chewing upon the salty flesh and coca leafs while contemplating the situation in the hopes that they are granted His blessing. Artist and Kalian thinkers likewise keep a stash of the remains of sapients in order to gain inspiration, and the clergy always begins their rites and contemplations with a small feast of specially prepared flesh from sapients.

Practitioners of the faith show their faith to Tamolok by praying three times per day, once at dawn, again at midday, and last at dusk. Likewise the devout show that they are wholly committed by covering themselves in intricate patterns of piercings made from the bone of sapients, rough stone, or precious metals known as piety piercings. The piercings are done without anaesthetic or antiseptics, those that die from infections are deemed as unfavoured by the Great Old One. However most Kalians have at least twenty to thirty piercings while priests and priestesses generally having piety piercings numbering in the hundreds. Due to this, Eldists can be identified by their pierced faces and bodies that they display with the utmost pride.

The Supreme Eldist authority is the Tikult, a senior priest or priestess that is chosen to lead the entire faith until death or mental infirmity. They are chosen by anonymous voting from the High Council upon death of the Tikult, and any member of the clergy except for those on the council may be chosen. The High Council consists of fifty priests and priestesses chosen by the Tikult, each holding the position until their last days. This leads to an odd sort of system that avoids a great deal of corruption, with the Tikult holding total power and those put on the council acting as a sort of parliament and advisory council for him or her.

Military strengths:
Due to a massive militant militia policy, massive numbers are consistently available to serve in the armed forces and to be called upon at any time. Over one third of the entire population is willing and able to fight.

Indoctrinated upon birth and surrounded by likewise zealous Kalians, unnatural fanaticism effects near all of the population. This has the effect of making Kalians practically immune to propaganda and moral lowering tactics.

With a massive industrial base, the Kalian economy supports the army by any means and all citizens are armed with assault weaponry and more than enough ammunition, grenades, and mortar shells to take out several large nations.

Military weaknesses:
Over the course of years, the navy, air force, and armoured corps all saw themselves relegated to the backburner in favour of the massed infantry tactics held so close to heart by the Innumerable Horde. It is because of this near exclusive focus that the naval, aerial, and armoured components of the Kalian army are mothballed and highly dated.

Of the Infantry, some of their equipment is dated as much as the rest of the military. The soldiers use old Kalashnikov variants and little to no body armour. The only modern weaponry they use are their explosives, necessary to take out opposing armoured forces.

Being a horde has its disadvantages, such as a general lack of organization or organization that falls apart in the heat of battle. With their tactics, numbers, and general focus on glory and sacrifices the organizational structure is sundered during battle with command falling from adept officers to the warrior instincts instilled in the soldiers during their training.

Relative technology level- Choose one: atomic age
Technological advantage: Industrial Emphasis; the national focus on heavy industry and weapons plants has lead to them becoming experts in the field and as such they are more efficient at making and running them.
Technological disadvantage: Technologically Septic; due to their oppressive theocratic regime, command economy, and mostly agrarian lifestyle the civilian technology of the Kalians is roughly 50-60 years behind their neighbouring nations.
Internet access: None, barring specific persons having access.
Dominant Transportation Method: Train
Television access: Poor and only in cities, radios are omnipresent however.

I am up for just about anything, though some proper large scale industrial warfare would be pleasant, as would detailed character RPs.

Ancient History:
The Kalians have no recollection of how their people came into being, origin myths ranging from crawling from lake Apa’zati to being born from Tamolok’s spilt blood during his battles against the coming oblivion. It was a time of chaos and tribalism, all that has been confirmed is that the first Kalians inhabited the central mountain range of Taka’zati for thousands of years. They fought in small tribes, sacrificing those captured to Tamolok and bringing glory to their people. Then change came, with the first Tikult appearing and forging the city state of Tikich’Atza around lake Apa’zati. For hundreds of years the city and its glorious Tikults led the Eldists, forging alliances with other city states and bringing more land under their control.

Then came the first concerted wars with the Pagans. The city was sacked under forces of heathen jaguars and their ocelot allies. The shame of the pillaging incited the formation of the first empire of Tikult’Kal under the most glorious Tikult Zaria Epechitlo, hailing from the village of Kal. Kal had been a small village in the way of the barbarian invaders, and had been put to the sword all except for Zaria who had managed to escape under the divine guidance of Tamolok. So blessed was she that the priests and priestess unanimously elected her as Tikult when she proclaimed herself to Tamolok within the remains of the great city that had only just been burnt.

She forged an empire, forming the first hordes and personally leading them into battle against the barbarous pagans. Using the jungle and overwhelming numbers to her advantage, Zaria impressed many smaller cities in the first empire and rebuilt Tikich’Atza with the help of all the original Kalian people. They willingly adopted her rule and the honourable name of her extant people, honouring her forever more as the most powerful and influential Kalian. She lived only a short while longer after forming the empire proper, dying in battle with ocelot heathens, but was avenged by the Kalian hordes that extinguished all of their kind in revenge. Following Zaria’s death Tikult’s were elected from her bloodline as a matter of course, creating the Epechitlo Dynasty that lasted for two thousand years.

Under Epechitlo leadership, the Empire expanded into the jungle that their mountainous home sat solidly within, impressing the native jaguars into their empire and sacrificing all others. This lasted until they reached the eastern mountains and the edge of the jungle. The belief at the time was that the world beyond the jungle was ‘dark lands’ filled with ravenous beasts and creatures born of the inevitable coming darkness. This bred complacency, the empire falling into a stupor and allowing corruption to grow while the Eldist faith was divided by internal fractures and disastrous debates. The first empire died in civil war.

<Other Stuff>

1846 CE The War of Bleeding Earth Begins as Tikult Zama’Ka attempts to instate a single religious text to guide the Eldist faith, creating a cascade of rebellion from every Kalian region as they took up arms in defence of their Eldist Denomination and issue their own Holy Books. Kalia split into numerous warring states, each led by a Tikult and each its own denomination that had formed over the course of centuries of divergent teachings. Population of the entirety of Kalia is 840 million

1849 CE Gatling guns are created and deployed, with the eastern nation of Tikult’Ekem deploying them during the passing of a Tikult’Locata army in the valley pass to the coastline. The entire army of four hundred thousand soldiers are routed, three quarters of their number slain. Tikult’Ekem pushes inland, and leaves behind a wave of devastation until their weapons are captured by Tikult’Laka and Tikult’Taka Shorn Ones and replicated. Population of the entirety of Kalia is 812 million.

1855 CE As the gatling gun is deployed en masse, assisted by quickly developing heavy artillery, the war becomes ever more bloody as entire cities are lain to waste and the entire population put to the sword in tactics normally considered beyond despicable by the Kalians so as to cull the population entirel in order to ‘remove the taint of their blasphemous ways’. Widespread disease from all the corpses, wasting crops, and devastation left behind by the armies cause massive plagues to erupt and begin sweeping the lands. Population of the entirety of Kalia is 433 million.

1859 CE Certain tribes cut themselves off from the war entirely, most evident among them the Cro’kala Tribe which secedes from Tikult’Malan. Others follow suit, and form insular enclaves which attack any and all forces that enter their territory. Most are wiped out in retaliatory invasions, Cro’kala again of note in that it managed to repel all attempts at decimation. Population of the entirety of Kalia is 302 million.

1862 CE The Battle of Lake Apa’zati takes place, lasting two weeks with the total fatalities numbering in the millions and Tikult’Taka the victor in the defence of their capital. However the death toll is such that the lake turns red with blood, and the rivers flowing from it, already saturated with blood from other ongoing battles, turn crimson. This earns the war its moniker, as it appeared to all downstream that the earth itself was bleeding. Mass starvation begins as crops are tainted by the foul and diseased water, fish die in large numbers. Population of the entirety of Kalia is 122 million.

1863 CE Tikult’Taka begins its offensive, slowly pushing down the rivers and claiming land with heavy resistance from the survivors. All who do not surrender immediately are slain and left to rot. Population of the entirety of Kalia is 104 million.

1867 CE The last major battle of the war takes place in Zapo’Ekem, with the main Taka force of two hundred thousand soldiers facing off against the coastal city. Fighting lasts three weeks before the Taka army breaches the city defences and slaughters the populace. Population of the entirety of Kalia is 46 million.

1868 CE Tikult'Taka defeats the last resisting state and the Holy Text of Tikult Zama'Ka is declared the one and only word of the Eldist faith, Tikult'Kal is reformed and the war ends. A few enclaves such as the Cro'kala tribe retain independence. Population of the entirety of Kalia is 32 million.

<More to come>

Modern History:
<To be filled as events happen>

-Relations to other nations-
Aatuylva - A state of extended cold war exists with violent, if small in scale, border clashes between partisan forces. Only the threat of a horrendous number of nuclear weapons on both sides stops war from breaking out. Despite this small trade exists in the underground, with the Kalians attempting to stamp out the black market with limited success.

Holmbergsvania - Tikult’Kal has an odd relationship with the principality, not wanting to anger them to the point they block Kalian trade through the straight they control, but unwilling to pay a tariff. War games and amphibious invasions are practiced consistently in areas with the same climate and general layout as the Holmbergsvanian coast. This is both an attempt to cow the Holmbergsvanians, and honest practice for if matters ever devolve.

<Constantly expanding>

-Give 3 interesting facts about your nation that gives it character:
All ethnic Kalians have a natural dampening aura when it comes to psionics, magical, and reality altering effects. In small numbers the aura is negligible, but it grows in power and size exponentially as more Kalians group together within an area. As such within cities the odd happenings elsewhere are nonexistent.

Kalians often play a ball game that dates back over three thousand years, with ball courts in just about every village and city. The game plays much like Mayan Ball, with two circular goals set on opposite sides of the court and the opposing teams trying to throw a head-sized rubber and bone ball through them using their hips. During the common version of the game the ball is lighter and softer, but during religious games the ball has a core formed from the skull of a priest and is hard and heavy enough to break the bones of the players. In religious games this matters little, with the victorious team winning the honour of being a glorious and honourable sacrifice to Tamolok.

Ocelots of the non-anthropomorphic kind are common pets. Instead of adopting the common housecat to deal with pests, Kalians domesticated the ocelot to a degree and keep them as omnipresent pets throughout the theocracy.

Miscellaneous Information
Species of Tikult'Kal

The predominant species of Tikult’Kal are jaguars, colloquially known as jags. They are short, average four and three quarter feet tall for men and four and a half feet for females. Their build is practically human, with the skeletal structure only truly differing in terms of extra thickness and the shape of the skull and fingers along with a two foot long tail. The head has large, feline, ears that protrude and have the musculature necessary to swivel and act as an outlet of body language. Jags also have eyes slightly larger than that of a human, with amber-orange slit-like irises. Other than that their faces are practically human in structure, though their canines are far larger and the upper set can sometimes protrude in rare cases.

The rest of their body only differs from humans in overt appearance and some functionality. Their bodies are covered in thick fur of the same colour and pattern as an animal jaguar, with a tail that swishes back and forth to reflect their emotions. Jags have stupendous musculature, with stout and muscle bound builds for the active and shapely physiques for even the most lazy jag thanks to their excessive metabolism and excellent atrophy control. Their hands though are different from humans, with small but deeply set curved claws in place of fingernails. This means they cannot make fists, but can otherwise manipulate the environment as normal.

Of the same build as the jags, Lynxes differentiate in terms of size and the fact that they are more animalistic. Aside from being only between four and four and a half feet tall lynxes also have a short muzzle instead of a near-human face like the jags, extending an inch to an inch and a half. They have large blue or yellow eyes, protruding feline ears with curving tufts, and long white whiskers. Lynxes have bodies covered in fur, along with a foot long tail, and are proportionally lank and slight. They lack the heavy build of the jags, instead being light and agile.

A crossbreed of jags and lynxes, jynxes share characteristics from both sides of their parentage. They are often the same height as the lynxes, but have a heavier and tougher build with the thicker bones, musculature, and fast metabolism of their jaguar ancestry. Often they have the short tail of the lynx, but some have longer tails. Whether they have a muzzle, and the corresponding skull, is a tossup with a roughly even split. Regardless they always have the ear tufts, and have a fur coat of a blend between the parents. They often have the spots of the jaguar, but have a solid white bib and stomach. Extra four extends longer from their jawbone and the back of rear sides of their cheeks.

To come; Cougars, Couguars(Jaguar/Cougar crossbreed)
